Words of Wisdom from Alto "Bud" Adams, Jr.

"I have learned from my mistakes so I have learned quite a bit, and am still learning."

Thoughts on the cattle business and other endeavors:

"You will not save the environment by destroying the food supply."
"A profit cannot be starved into a cow."
"You cannot maintain grassland without grazing it."

"Land must be conserved and replenished, because you can't make something out of nothing."

"Breeders do not determine the size of their cows: soil, fertility and markets do."

"The cattle business is a simple business. You need to provide good grass in front of the cows and good bulls behind. Relatively few people accomplish this."

"God made horses to work cattle. He made cattle to feed people who couldn't eat grass."

"It is hard to do business without repeat customers. You cannot keep customers without being completely honest."
"You need to treat your employees like family - only better."
"You need to sell cattle at a price the buyer can make a profit."
"You cannot build success on incompetence alone."
"You should never produce anything that you can buy cheaper than your cost of production."
"No one takes care of the land like the owners."

"You cannot complain about your children, if you understand genetics."

"People and nations generally act in their own self interest. That is how they survive."
"You cannot legislate prosperity."
"I have not lived in Florida all my life - yet."
